Lead Stories updated its check at 15:07 UTC on 19 August, retitling it: the clip is a scene from a 2016 Egyptian television drama called The Exit Series. So a video circulated for six months as footage of a ritual on Epstein's island is a piece of Egyptian television nobody had placed. Two things follow. The first is a straight correction to the entry above, written this morning, which said the clip had no traceable origin and stood beyond the reach of provenance tools. The first half of that was accurate at the time and the second was an inference that has not held: the origin existed all along and simply had not been recognised. The second is how it was found. Four reverse-image engines had already failed on this clip, and they failed because they match images, not works; a drama scene that has never been uploaded as a still in a searchable index is invisible to them however many times it circulates. What closed it was somebody recognising a television programme.
