   The IlluminatiSecret Societies & Power

   Adam Weishaupt, a 28-year-old professor of canon law at the University of Ingolstadt in the Electorate of Bavaria, founds a secret society he calls the Order of Perfectibilists, soon renamed the Illuminati, Latin for 'the enlightened.'
