The Middletown Valley Register, edited and published by George C. Rhoderick, launches a front-page series announcing that the Snallygaster has returned. The lurid accounts, later attributed to Rhoderick, reporter Ralph S. Wolfe, and a Middletown-born correspondent, Thomas C. Harbaugh, describe a winged monster with an eye in the center of its forehead, claws like steel hooks, and a screech like a locomotive whistle.

ISU referee Ronald Pfenning reports the lobby incident to skating authorities. The ISU suspends Le Gougne from the remaining events pending an internal review, and the story explodes into one of the defining controversies of the Games.

After a 2007 FOIA request from researcher Matthew Aid, the CIA declassifies a 50-page internal history of the operation, 'Project Azorian: The Story of the Hughes Glomar Explorer,' originally written for its in-house journal Studies in Intelligence; the National Security Archive publishes it.

A genuine, very large nationwide strike takes place. A joint forum of ten central trade unions together with the Samyukt Kisan Morcha stages a Bharat Bandh across more than 600 districts, with organizers claiming participation in the hundreds of millions, over labour codes, privatization, and farm-sector policy. The dramatic protest footage from this real event, road blockades, rallies, shuttered banks, later becomes raw material for unrelated fakes.
