Operation Paget publishes its 832-page report, the product of nearly three years' work by a team of officers. It examines over a hundred distinct conspiracy allegations and concludes there is no evidence that Diana and Dodi were murdered; the deaths were a road accident.
- 2010Fast and FuriousGovernment & Intelligence
U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry is killed in a firefight near Nogales, Arizona. Two rifles recovered at the scene are traced to a Fast and Furious straw purchaser. The bullet that killed Terry is too damaged to be conclusively matched to either weapon.

Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov, a former Moscow police lieutenant colonel who organized surveillance of Politkovskaya and supplied the murder weapon, is sentenced to 11 years after a plea bargain in which he agreed to cooperate. Critics note he did not name who ordered the killing.

A gunman kills twenty children, aged six and seven, and six adult staff at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, before killing himself; he had earlier killed his mother. It is one of the deadliest school shootings in US history.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issues a written response on residual DNA in the mRNA vaccines, explaining that manufacturing includes enzymatic (DNase) treatment that fragments residual template DNA, that quantities are tightly limited, and that surveillance across more than a billion doses shows no safety signal attributable to residual DNA.
