    Hall-Mills murderUnsolved Crimes & Disappearances

    Edward Hall and Eleanor Mills are believed to have been killed on the night of Thursday 14 September 1922. Hall, 41, was the rector of an Episcopal church in New Brunswick; Mills, 34, sang in his choir and was married to the church sexton. Their affair was an open secret among some in the congregation.

    Monster of FlorenceUnsolved Crimes & Disappearances

    Pasquale Gentilcore, 19, and Stefania Pettini, 18, are shot and stabbed near Borgo San Lorenzo; Pettini's body is mutilated. Ballistics later tie the bullets to the same .22 Beretta used in 1968, though Mele is in prison, so the weapon is in someone else's hands.

    Heaven's GateDoomsday & Prophecy

    Calling themselves The Two, Applewhite and Nettles hold a public meeting at a hotel in Waldport, Oregon, promising that a spaceship would carry the ready to a level above human. About twenty attendees leave their lives behind to follow the pair, and the group goes largely underground for years.

    Sabra and Shatila massacreGovernment & Intelligence

    A bomb destroys the Kataeb (Phalange) party headquarters in East Beirut, killing Lebanon's Christian president-elect, Bashir Gemayel, and more than twenty others. The attack, later attributed to a member of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party, inflames the Phalange, Israel's principal Lebanese ally, who blame Palestinians and vow revenge.

    Tupac is aliveHoaxes & Pop Culture

    Tupac's body is cremated. The speed of the cremation, and the absence of a public funeral or open casket, later becomes one of the seeds theorists point to, though a private cremation is an ordinary family choice.

    Navalny Novichok poisoningGovernment & Intelligence

    Germany says that designated laboratories in France and Sweden have independently confirmed the presence of a Novichok-class agent in Navalny's samples, corroborating the earlier German finding.
