    Over roughly ten hours of killing, more than 300 Chinese residents are murdered, about half the city's Chinese population, and Chinese-owned property is looted and burned. Emilio Madero arrives, issues a proclamation threatening the death penalty for anyone who kills a Chinese resident, and the massacre stops.
