President Kennedy approves National Security Council guidance that the United States not initiate the overthrow of Trujillo until it is known what government would replace him. In line with the new caution, the Director of Central Intelligence directs that the machine guns not be passed to the dissidents.
- 1984Andy Kaufman death hoaxHoaxes & Pop Culture
Kaufman dies at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles at age 35. Wire services including UPI report his death the same day.
- 1994Bielefeld conspiracyHoaxes & Pop Culture
Held, a computer-science student then associated with the University of Kiel, posts the fully formed theory to the newsgroup de.talk.bizarre. He frames Bielefeld's nonexistence as a suppressed truth guarded by a power called SIE (THEY) and poses his three test questions, writing in the earnest cadence of a whistleblower. He intends it as a parody of conspiracy thinking.

After a nationwide manhunt, police arrest Shoko Asahara, found hidden in a concealed room at the Kamikuishiki compound. Around 200 members are eventually arrested in connection with the attacks and other crimes.

Fravor and Dietrich describe the encounter publicly and on camera for the first time together, in a 60 Minutes segment, days before a US intelligence assessment of UAP is due to Congress. Both stand by their accounts and say the object outperformed any aircraft they knew.
