On this day in conspiracies

Taylor's servant Henry Peavey arrives in the morning and finds the body lying on the floor. In the confusion, a man in the gathering crowd reportedly declares that Taylor died of a stomach hemorrhage; only when the body is moved is the bullet wound in the back discovered.

Wallace is arrested and charged with the murder of his wife. The prosecution theory is that he invented Qualtrough himself, made the call from the box near his home before going to the club, and used the fruitless errand the next night to build an alibi for a killing he had already committed.

The Attorney-General of the Eastern Cape declines to prosecute anyone in connection with Biko's death. The official account, an accidental injury during a scuffle with no culpable party, is closed.

During the search for a British tourist who had fallen to his death from Uluru, searchers find Azaria's missing matinee jacket partly buried beside a dingo lair at the base of the rock, in an area dense with dingo dens. Police had long maintained the jacket did not exist. The discovery corroborates the dingo account and reopens the case.

The Department of Defense responds. Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh tells reporters that Swift is not part of any DoD psychological operation, and jokes to Politico that “as for this conspiracy theory, we are going to shake it off,” nodding to one of Swift's songs.
