    After Ottoman authority is restored in Syria, Montefiore petitions Sultan Abdülmecid I in Constantinople. The Sultan issues a firman denouncing the blood libel as a baseless slander and banning ritual-murder accusations against Jews throughout the empire, stating their innocence is “evident” and the charge has “not the least foundation in truth.”

    Travis Walton abductionUFOs & Aliens

    Sheriff Marlin Gillespie organizes a search of the rugged forest area involving deputies, volunteers, jeeps, and horses over the following days. No trace of Walton is found. With no body and no explanation, some investigators consider whether the crew might have been involved in his disappearance.

    At about 11:35 a.m., roughly 35 armed members of the M-19 guerrilla group storm the Palace of Justice on Bogota's Plaza de Bolivar, entering through the basement and seizing the building with hundreds of people inside, including Supreme Court and Council of State magistrates. The guerrillas declare they intend to put President Belisario Betancur on trial.

    The Kurunegala Magistrate's Court, acting on advice from the Attorney General's Department that there was no evidence to proceed, acquits Dr. Shafi of all charges and lifts the travel ban against him. The exoneration closes a five-year ordeal built on a claim that was never substantiated.
