Nine physicians are named, most of them Jewish; they are accused of poisoning Zhdanov and Shcherbakov and plotting to kill Soviet leaders on behalf of American and British intelligence and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. The press demands vigilance against hidden 'enemies' and 'spies.'

Halt sends a memo titled 'Unexplained Lights' to the UK Ministry of Defence, later released under the US Freedom of Information Act in 1983 and now held at the National Archives.
