The trial of Frances Hall and her brothers Henry and Willie Stevens opens at the Somerset County Courthouse in Somerville before judges Charles W. Parker and Frank L. Cleary. Henry Carpender wins the right to be tried separately and is ultimately never tried. Hundreds of reporters cover the proceedings, which become a national media spectacle.

Around midnight, motorist Jim Wheeler reports a brilliantly lit, egg-shaped object, which he estimates at roughly 200 feet, blocking the road about four miles east of town. He says his car died; as he got out, the object lifted off, its light went out, and his car started again.

Allende is inaugurated president. U.S. policy shifts from blocking his inauguration to undermining his government from within: what officials framed as making his rule untenable.
- 1971The Delphos UFO ringUFOs & Aliens
The family reports the event. Ottawa County sheriff Ralph Enlow and other officers visit and document the site. Their report describes a ring shaped like a doughnut, dry in a band and hole while the surrounding soil is muddy from recent rain, and notes the affected trees. Local newspapers carry the story, and the account reaches the Aerial Phenomena Research Organization (APRO).

Gani Fawehinmi, a prominent human-rights lawyer and Giwa's friend and former legal adviser, petitions the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions, naming Colonel Halilu Akilu (Director of Military Intelligence) and Lt. Col. A. K. Togun (a deputy director of the State Security Service) and asking that they be prosecuted for the murder or that he be permitted to do so privately. The DPP declines to decide pending a police report.

The Lebanese magazine Ash-Shiraa first reports the secret US arms sales to Iran, breaking the story publicly.

Kryptos is dedicated in a courtyard of the George Bush Center for Intelligence in Langley, Virginia. Its S-shaped copper screen carries four encrypted passages, labeled K1 through K4, alongside a Vigenere tableau.
- 1996Turkish deep state (Susurluk)Secret Societies & Power
A Mercedes traveling near Susurluk, in Balikesir province, crashes into a truck. Killed are ex-police official Huseyin Kocadag, wanted Grey Wolves assassin Abdullah Catli, and Catli's companion Gonca Us. The lone survivor is MP and clan leader Sedat Bucak. Weapons, silencers, and official identity documents in Catli's name are recovered from the car.

Litvinenko is admitted to Barnet General Hospital, and is later transferred to University College Hospital in central London as his condition deteriorates. Doctors are initially baffled by the cause of his acute illness.

On election night, with mail ballots still being counted in several states, Trump falsely claims victory and calls the ongoing count fraudulent. As later-counted mail ballots move key states toward Biden, the 'Stop the Steal' slogan spreads rapidly across social media and rallies.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department releases an after-action report reconstructing the incident and the emergency response.
