Wildfires and their contested causes
A destructive fire season reliably produces a second story alongside the first. Arson is a real and prosecuted feature of Mediterranean and North American summers, which gives every larger claim a foothold: that the fires were started by directed-energy weapons, or by drones, or as cover for a property scheme. These files separate the documented record, what investigators, courts and fire agencies actually found, from the claims laid over it, and note where a genuine unresolved cause is doing the work that evidence has not.

A video circulates whenever a fire season turns severe: a drone flying low over woodland, dropping small objects, and flames rising behind it. The caption says these machines are used specifically to start fires, that a single flight can burn dozens of acres, and that this is how the fires currently on the news are being set. The video is genuine and nothing about it has been manipulated. What has been swapped is the purpose. The aircraft is an aerial ignition drone, sold to fire services to drop ignition spheres and light small, controlled fires ahead of an advancing wildfire so that it runs out of fuel, a technique long flown from helicopters and now run more safely from the ground. Maldita.es rated the claim false in 2022 and again when it returned in July 2026. This file rates the claim, not the fires: whether any particular fire was deliberately set is a matter for investigators, and arson prosecutions are a real feature of European fire seasons. What is not supported is that this device, or this footage, is evidence of it.

Real and painful problems sit underneath the story, a genuinely fire-prone landscape, eucalyptus monoculture, rural depopulation, and yes, some real arsonists. The coordinated-conspiracy reading laid over them is not what the evidence shows.
