The jury acquits all defendants of criminal conspiracy, citing insufficient evidence. Reports describe players and jurors celebrating together afterward.

Three North Vietnamese torpedo boats engage the USS Maddox, a US destroyer on a signals-intelligence patrol in the Gulf of Tonkin. This attack is real and not in dispute.
- 1980Bologna massacreGovernment & Intelligence
At 10:25 a time bomb of roughly 23 kilograms of explosive, concealed in a suitcase left in the second-class waiting room, detonates at Bologna Centrale station. It kills 85 people and wounds more than 200, collapsing part of the station and a waiting train. It is the worst terrorist atrocity in Italy since the Second World War.
