Percy and Lessie Dunbar take their sons on a fishing and camping trip to Swayze Lake in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. Four-year-old Bobby wanders from the camp and disappears.

María Gómez Cámara reportedly notices a dark, face-like stain forming in the concrete floor of her kitchen at Calle Real 5 in Bélmez de la Moraleda, Jaén, Andalusia. Over days the smudge is said to resolve into a distinct human face.

Rose signs a settlement accepting placement on baseball's permanently ineligible list. The agreement neither requires him to admit nor lets him formally deny the gambling findings. Giamatti tells reporters he personally concludes Rose bet on baseball.

The NTSB adopts its final report, AAR-00/03, after reconstructing much of the airframe. It gives the probable cause as an explosion of the center wing fuel tank from ignition of the flammable fuel-air vapor, most likely from a short circuit that carried excessive voltage into the tank through fuel-gauging wiring.

Police, alerted after Williams failed to show up for work and could not be reached, enter the flat and find his naked body inside a padlocked North Face holdall placed in the bath of the en-suite bathroom. The bag is locked from the outside and the key is later found inside it, under his body.

The Court of Appeal overturns both convictions, ruling that the prosecution's case had gaps, and acquits Azilah and Sirul. The reversal is widely criticized, and the prosecution appeals to the Federal Court.
