    The Van Meter VisitorCryptids & Monsters

    The following night, Dr. A.C. Alcott, a local physician, says he is woken by a brilliant light shining through his office window. He grabs a gun, goes outside, and reports a tall, beaked creature with large wings. He fires several shots with no visible effect.

  2. 1982
    The Tylenol murdersUnsolved Crimes & Disappearances

    Over the following two days, three more people die: Mary McFarland, 31, Paula Prince, 35, and Mary Reiner, 27. Investigators connect the deaths to a common thread and find that Extra-Strength Tylenol capsules have been opened and refilled with potassium cyanide.

    Solar TempleDoomsday & Prophecy

    In Morin-Heights, Quebec, Tony Dutoit, his wife Nicky, and their three-month-old son are stabbed to death by order members. Two members then die at the property as the buildings are set alight, bringing the Quebec toll to five. The killings open a sequence that will run for two and a half years.

    Iraq WMDGovernment & Intelligence

    The Iraq Survey Group's final report, the Comprehensive Report of the Special Advisor to the DCI on Iraq's WMD (the Duelfer Report), concludes that Iraq had no WMD stockpiles at the time of the invasion and that its programs had been essentially dismantled after 1991, while noting Saddam Hussein retained the intent to rebuild them once sanctions lifted.

    Nord Stream sabotageGovernment & Intelligence

    Denmark and Sweden jointly inform the UN Security Council that the leaks were caused by at least two detonations involving explosives equivalent to several hundred kilograms of TNT. The incident is treated from the outset as sabotage.

    Pete Rose bet on baseballHoaxes & Pop Culture

    Rose dies at age 83 in Las Vegas of natural causes, still on the ineligible list and outside the Hall of Fame despite his record 4,256 career hits.
