    Child-snatcher organ rumorsHoaxes & Pop Culture

    In Santa Lucia Cotzumalguapa, Guatemala, an American woman, Melissa Larson of New Mexico, is accused by a crowd of stealing children for their organs and is detained and threatened before authorities intervene. The rumor is by now at fever pitch across the country.

    Boris Nemtsov assassinationGovernment & Intelligence

    The head of the FSB announces the arrest of two suspects from the North Caucasus, Zaur Dadayev and Anzor Gubashev. Dadayev, a former deputy commander of the Sever (North) battalion under Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, is described as a central figure. More arrests of Chechen men follow.

    CIA Vault 7Government & Intelligence

    WikiLeaks publishes the first Vault 7 batch, 'Year Zero': roughly 7,800 web pages and more than 900 attachments. WikiLeaks says the archive came from an isolated, high-security network inside the CCI, and calls it the largest leak of intelligence documents in history.

    Pakistan's ambassador to Washington, Asad Majeed Khan, meets senior U.S. State Department official Donald Lu. The ambassador's account of that meeting is encrypted and cabled home to Islamabad: the document that becomes the 'cypher.'

    The New York Times reports that new intelligence reviewed by US officials suggests a pro-Ukrainian group carried out the attack. German outlets describe a chartered sailing yacht, the Andromeda, rented via a Poland-based company by people using forged passports, with explosive residue reportedly found aboard. Officials caution the yacht trail could itself be a false flag.
