To join, women were made to provide 'collateral': nude photographs, damaging confessions about themselves and their families, rights to assets, material that could destroy them if released. Some were branded near the hip with a symbol containing Raniere's initials, and some were coerced into sex with him. But the leap from that slow, uneven diversification to a secret plan for an imminent, deliberate wipeout of your savings is not one the evidence supports. There is no common BRICS currency, no launch date, and no summit document that commits to killing the dollar. The trend is worth watching. The engineered-collapse plot is not what is happening.

During the 2008 financial crisis a second scheme ran alongside the first: banks lowballed their submissions so they would not look weak to the market. Barclays broke the story open in June 2012 with a roughly $450 million settlement, its chief executive resigned within days, and a cascade of penalties followed: UBS, RBS, Rabobank and Deutsche Bank among them, with total fines exceeding $9 billion. A handful of traders were criminally convicted, though the UK Supreme Court quashed several of those convictions in 2025 on a legal technicality. LIBOR itself was reformed after the Wheatley Review and then phased out entirely between 2021 and 2023. On the claim that the benchmark was deliberately manipulated, the verdict is substantiated.

The accompanying claim is that this is happening to the food already in your cupboard, that it is deliberate, and that nobody is being told. The underlying facts are more interesting than either the claim or a flat dismissal of it. Insect protein has been authorised for sale in the European Union, species by species, through a public regulatory process with named applicant companies, and cricket powder is an ingredient in some products. But the regulation that permits it is also the regulation that requires it to be declared, with the species named and an allergen warning attached, because EFSA found insect proteins can affect people with existing shellfish and dust-mite allergies. So the rating here turns on one word in the claim. Insects in food: documented. Insects in food covertly, as part of a programme: contradicted by the paperwork the claim itself points at. And one narrower worry, about labels that satisfy the law in Latin, survives both, having been raised by a fact-checker rather than by anyone selling the conspiracy.

On 30 July 2026, between 50,000 and 60,000 people crossed from Morocco into the Spanish city of Ceuta. Spain declared an emergency and at least 72 people died. The causes were on the public record within days: a Spanish Supreme Court ruling of 8 July that smuggling networks distorted and marketed, the state of Spanish-Moroccan relations, and a decade of pressure on Europe's asylum system. That is not the story that spread. Within hours, a false claim took hold that Israel had engineered the crossing, using Morocco as an instrument, to punish Spain for condemning the war in Gaza. Researchers at the Combat Antisemitism Movement's Antisemitism Research Center counted 173 high-impact posts from 119 named influencer accounts in the first 72 hours, generating 57.5 million views and an estimated reach of 103.1 million. The evidence offered was manufactured: a threat attributed to Benjamin Netanyahu that appears nowhere but the post that invented it, a claim of a Mossad admission sourced to a labelled parody account, and a statement invented for the actor Javier Bardem, who said no such thing. The disclosure brought down the Forlani government. A parliamentary commission of inquiry led by the Christian Democrat Tina Anselmi spent years on the affair and concluded that P2 was a secret and subversive organization; a 1982 law dissolved it and outlawed clandestine associations. From there a theory has grown that the point of the exercise was to protect particular people from being identified. This file separates the two.
